Four steps to complete your KYC

KYC or Know your Customer is a process used by fintech companies and banks to verify your identity in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India policies.

Step 1: Update your personal and business information

  • Log in to your PayPal account and click on the “Verify your identity” notification and select your account type. If you are unsure which business type to choose, you will find more information in this help centre article.
  • Update your personal and business information, including your PAN number. Ensure names match your government-issued documents. For name changes, see our help centre articles on user name change and business name changes.
  • Submit the required documents based on your account type. If you have any questions on specific document submission, please head to this help centre article.

For more information on the documents required, please head to the last section of this page “Information for business account users”.

Step 2: Link your bank account

To input your bank information, there are 2 methods available.

  • If you know your IFSC code:

The IFSC code is an 11-digit alphanumeric unique identifier for your account, which can be found in your cheque leaf or you may contact your bank branch. Once completed, fill in your account number.

b) If you don’t know your IFSC code:

Search for you IFSC code with your bank name, state, city and location. Once completed, fill in your account number.

Step 3: Verify your identity / Complete your verification

The next step is to verify your identity. To proceed you have two options: you may verify your Aadhaar through DigiLocker or by manually uploading documents.

  • Digilocker is a secure platform that allows you to verify your Aadhaar without needing an account; simply log in with your Aadhaar OTP, ensuring your Aadhaar is linked to your phone. If you’ve forgotten your Digilocker PIN, you can easily reissue it within the Digilocker flow. If your OTP does not arrive, you can manually upload your documents instead.
  • For manual upload, capture and upload both sides of your other identity documents, such as your driver’s license.

Note: You will need to allow the necessary permissions, as this is mandatory for the next step.

Step 4: Video KYC

Proceed to connect with a live video call agent for your KYC verification. Facial recognition will be done to verify your identity with your physical PAN card. Once the video call is completed, PayPal will verify your details within the next 2-3 days, and your account will be activated, allowing you to start using your PayPal account.

Tips: Before starting the video call:

  • Ensure you are present in India while conducting your KYC.

  • Ensure you are carrying your "Physical PAN card at the time of verification". If you are an E-PAN Holder, please proceed by following the instructions from the agent.

  • Make sure you enable your device with location/GPS, camera, and audio access.

  • The uploaded document is clear, photocopies or laminated copies are not allowed

  • Dress appropriately as the call will be recorded. Ensure you are seated in a clear background with bright light as your clear image will be captured.
