When and how does PayPal Giving Fund grant donations to charities?

PayPal Giving Fund believes that when donors have a wide array of charities to choose from, charitable giving increases. As such, for certain PayPal Giving Fund programs, we provide donors with a large directory of charities that may receive contributions from PayPal Giving Fund. PayPal Giving Fund partners with GuideStar to list eligible 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organizations on some of our charitable giving platforms.

This directory includes both enrolled charities that have confirmed charity status with PayPal and have agreed to the PayPal User Agreement and PayPal Giving Fund Non-Profit Agreement, as well as unenrolled charities that haven’t agreed to its terms.

Enrolled Charities

PayPal Giving Fund distributes donations to enrolled charities on or before the 25th of each month, by depositing a single payment into each charity's PayPal account.
Donations received on the 16th of the previous month up to the 15th of the current month are included in the monthly payout. We aggregate the donations to help reduce charities' administrative costs.

***New charities must complete the enrollment process by the 15th to receive your first payment within the same month.***

Unenrolled Charities

If a donation has been made to benefit your charity and it is not currently enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund, we will invite your charity to enroll with us. PayPal Giving Fund will make several attempts to contact you via email and/or physical mail before we will attempt to deliver the funds via check, after we have determined that your charity meets our requirements for receiving grants from PayPal Giving Fund, pursuant to our Nonprofit Certification Policy and Donation Delivery Policy.

We distribute checks to unenrolled charities on a bi-monthly basis after we have determined that an organization meets our requirements pursuant to our Nonprofit Certification Policy and Donation Delivery Policy.

If you're not sure if your charity is enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund, you can check by attempting to log in to your PayPal Giving Fund dashboard

Your charity doesn’t need to enroll to receive grants from PayPal Giving Fund. However, by enrolling your charity will:

  • Receive grants in your PayPal account in a single monthly payment.
  • Track all donations made to your charity through PayPal Giving Fund.
  • View donor details to help build your database (where the donor has agreed to share their details with you).

If you’re not sure whether your charity is enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund, you can check by viewing your profile on PayPal’s app or website. If you haven’t enrolled, you’ll see a note explaining, “This page hasn’t been reviewed or approved by this charity”.

Alternatively, you can check if your charity is enrolled by attempting to log in to your PayPal Giving Fund dashboard (using your PayPal account credentials).

To get the discounted charity rate for your organization, we need to confirm your charity account.

To confirm your charity with PayPal right away, add your charity bank account. If we're unable to link your bank account, we'll need some information about you and your charity to complete the confirmation process.

You can benefit from lower transaction rates, expand your donor network, and more as a confirmed charity.
